It's Easy Being Green

May 23, 2005 by Hugh Kemper

Have you heard Kermit the Frog (The Muppets Show) mournfully sing It's Not Easy Being Green. Well, Kermit, in today's politically correct world it's easy being `green'. Green is synonymous with clean, renewable energy and the fight to halt global warming. What's tough is when you're seen as not subscribing to the entire green agenda even when truth is on your side.

Save our ridgelines

Feb 24, 2005 from Burlington Free Press

VERMONT -- For one state lawmaker, the debate about wind turbines on Vermont's ridgelines is reminiscent of a Depression-era scheme to build a highway along the spine of the state's highest peaks. The Green Mountain Parkway, which was defeated in a statewide referendum in 1936, would have stretched 260 miles from Massachusetts to the Canadian border -- and ruined our ridgelines.

In our neighboring Northeast Kingdom, Vermont

"We strongly oppose construction of industrial wind-turbine projects along the ridgelines in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom".

Glebe Mount Group, Londonderry, VT

"The Glebe Mountain Group (GMG) is a voluntary association of residents and property owners in the Glebe Mountain region of Vermont. The group was formed in response to concerns about a proposal by Catamount Energy to install 27 wind turbines 330 feet tall, lighted 24 hours a day, along a three and one-half mile stretch of Glebe Mountain in Londonderry. The Glebe Mountain ridgeline stands alone above the valley floor as the most dominant feature of the regional landscape, visible from scenic corridors, protected areas and village centers."

Will Vermont Become The Pinwheel State?

Jan 31, 2004 from THE CALEDONIAN-RECORD

Don Nelson, a retired farmer from Lowell, is worried the ridges and fields next to his farm may become the site of commercial wind turbines, with 330-foot tall structures visible along 30 miles of Vermont's high ridgelines from Routes 100 and 14
