PRINCE CHARLES ANGERS WIND FARM BACKERS

Oct 08, 2004 (819 Reads)
PRINCE Charles has angered Furness wind farmers by branding their turbines horrendous blots on the landscape.

The remarks by the heir to the throne will have comforted opponents but have angered existing green energy groups and companies. An aide to Prince Charles said he wanted the spread of the turbines halted before they ruined some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside. Annette Heslop, secretary of the Baywind Cooperative, which has one turbine at Haverigg and five at Harlock Hill near Barrow, said: “Prince Charles is entitled to his view but what is the alternative he is coming up with? “A lot of people keep saying they are in favour of renewable energy but this is the same nimbyism— not in my back yard. “Turbines are only temporary. In 20 years’ time you will never have known some of them have been there. “People really must come up with alternatives. They can’t just keep on knocking wind turbines.
