This is Kelly Alexander's house

FYI from Michigan - this can happen to you

“Those turbines appear to be near, but actually they are 1300 feet away from Kelly's home.

They stand on property owned by Mackinaw city, but outside the village limits. The developer plans to build 3 more much larger machines on that land. This will add to the noise and blade flicker that bothers Kelly's family already.

Ironically, the latest wind resource maps for Michigan show that this proposed site for additional wind turbines has quite poor wind resources.

This flyer about Kelly's home is passed out at meetings.

FLYER

This is Kelly Alexander's Home in Mackinaw City. He believed that windpower would be a good energy source. He did not oppose the wind turbines, because he was told that the machines were not noisy. No one told him about the blade flicker that shines even through closed blinds.

The nearest turbine is ¼ mile away from his house. These towers are small, only 265 feet tall. Decibel readings 280 ft from the turbine are 60-65 dBA. A thousand feet further away, the reading at the rear of Kelly's house that faces toward the turbines and away from the expressway is 50-55 dBA. The noise has only slightly dissipated even over that great distance. Even worse, there is the low frequency noise that penetrates his home with doors and windows tightly closed and storm windows installed. There is no way to escape the noise.

He built this new home near the expressway in order to be next to his elderly parents. Kelly’s parents live 1500 feet from the turbines. They are hard of hearing, but the low frequency noise of the Wind Machines does keep them from sleeping sometimes. Their right to peacefully enjoy their final years in their home has been stolen from them.

The wind industry claims that Kelly shouldn't complain about the noise, after all, he built next to an expressway. They add that there is also a police target shooting range near. Of course, the range is used infrequently, and there is no shooting at night. There seems to be no limit to the industry's arrogance.

The turbine owner asked what he could do to help the situation. Kelly's answer was this:

“Stop lying about these noisy turbines. Tell people the truth.”
